Invitation to support UKAS technical assessments

Have you got what it takes to be a technical assessor?

Becoming a self-employed independent technical assessor for UKAS is a way for engineering professionals to expand their skills and take their career to the next level.

Accreditation plays a vital role in our everyday lives, providing confidence in the products and services we all rely on.

As the UK’s National Accreditation Body, we are a private company appointed by government to assess and accredit organisations that provide services including certification, testing, calibration, inspection, validation and verification.

Independent technical assessors play a crucial role in the UKAS assessment process and provide us with the expertise we need to deliver robust assessments across a wide range of technical areas.

This rewarding role is one that many choose to fulfil alongside their career, or after retiring from full-time work as a way of putting their technical knowledge to good use and giving back to the industry.

We are looking for candidates from a range of engineering disciplines with proven technical skills who can assess technical competence and capability within an organisation. This includes assessing the validity of technical operations, appropriateness of equipment and the competence of employees.

We are accepting applicants from all engineering disciplines.

Independent technical assessors must have, and maintain, a strong comprehensive working knowledge of:

The processes or techniques they are assessing in, including the relevant accreditation standard(s)

The type of business processes and systems relevant to the organisation being assessed

The underlying principles surrounding quality assurance and quality management

Candidates need to be well organised and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They should also be able to report accurately and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and provide empathic feedback.

Our independent technical assessors work for UKAS on a third-party sub-contract basis, with the quantity of work dependent on business needs. Once an agreement has been signed, a daily fee is paid for services that include preparation and post-visit activities, as well as on-site assessments. Expenses will also be reimbursed in accordance with HMRC guidelines.

Full training is provided in the relevant accreditation standards.

If you have the technical expertise, the right attributes and are committed to quality and improvement, please get in touch.
